Don't get me wrong, I love to blog! It is my passion these days. I love expressing my thoughts and interacting with bloggers from all over the world. I enjoy improving and promoting my blog (with assistance from many support services available--some genuinely helpful, some not). But, it all takes time! A blogger can literally spend the entire day working on one blog. And I am retired, so I probably have far more time available than many bloggers out there who actually have a job to go to and can only blog after work.
So, my question is, if it takes so much time to create, develop, and maintain ONE blog, how in the heck does anyone maintain two or even three blogs?
And why? I note that some bloggers have hobbies and devote one blog to their hobby and one to their personal diary. Or one blog to their business. Or a passion or cause. Does this work for them? How do they choose a topic for a second or third blog? How do they handle the increased work load?

I guess my questions ares similar to asking parents how they handle a second or third child. Isn't it hard enough taking care of just one? Those of us who have more than one child know that it's difficult but possible to raise more than one child. Perhaps, many parents might argue, the second or third child is easier because we learn from our mistakes with the first.
Maybe it's the same with blogging. My blog is somewhat like my child. I love it. I try to nurture it. I want it to grow and succeed. When it has a bad day and gets kicked by a bully on the playground my heart breaks for it. But I encourage it to pick itself up and try again. I'm the blog parent and I learn from each and everything that happens to my blog--good or bad.
So, my question is:
Bloggers who have more than one blog, just why did you decide to give birth to that second or third blog? And do you find it harder or easier with each additional blog? I'd really like to know before I even consider giving birth again.

to be honest, i have several blogs because i wanted to earn more. im a work at home mom, so i have more time to blog. i agree with you, it is hard to maintain one blog what more with 2 and 3, that's why i have to think really hard on what topics i should write about.
you're a good writer and you have good articles, i'm sure you won't find it difficult to give birth to another.
cheers
I personally started different blogs because of the money aspect, but I can't say I've made an abundance although I have made some extra spending money. I feel like I have 3 different personalities and am now trying to find a way to blend the 3 without destroying them because they are just getting too much for me. So I wish you well if you try to start in another niche.
The first blog I started up is devoted strictly to poetry of a specific kind. Later I realised the opportunity a blog could bring to reach out to a specific audience. I decided to open another blog in the hopes of bringing support and understanding to those affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder by posting about my own struggles with this illness. Two very different blogs.
It has been tough trying to post often on both blogs, especially since I am the mother of two human children as well! :) I can only hope that my readers will appreciate the quality of my posts over the quantity.
Terrific topic Patricia!!
I have 3 and I'm thinking I'll drop down to 2. My first blog, my baby is a catch-all blog,it's the place I'll discuss being a grandma, being retired, my continued quest to stay away from smoking, it's a place for me to bitch and moan about anything and everything, the second blog was something to discuss what I love, cruising, and the third is for photography only.
3 blogs is too much work, especially if you are using Entrecard on each of them and attempting to drop 300 per blog (900 a day - talk about being bored). I'm not going to take down my cruising blog but I'm not going to work at it aggressively.
I really have found something I enjoy (blogging), it's helped me meet so many people that otherwise I probably would have never met - I love it!!!!
ouch.you hit me with this post of yours hahahaha.I have 7 blogs.3 in bravejournals,2 in blogspot and the rest are my domains. It's very very difficult maintaining all of them.Recently,I decided to just quit the ones in bravejournal for I don't like posting there anymore.
Well, most of my blogs are personal,I do insert some tech info in my other blog too. It's very tiring afterwards esp.to my brain for I have to think of topics to post in each of my blog.Huh,mind you I also have a baby to take care of here and a droppin to do.You might wonder now if I'm still SANE? lolz.
You gotta check out all my blogs and you decide whether they're interesting or not.For me,I am happy with my blogs!
wow this is really an interesting topic.
To be honest before I join blogosphere I was hesitant because of the thought that I was not really good in English but I challenge myself. later on I realize that through blogging I can enhance my English and at the same time meet some great friends. Until I also found out that we can actually earn money with it, so thats why I decided to create more blog because I want to earn more. I am glad that I am able to manage it but its sometimes difficult.
Honestly, one should be needy and I am one of those hahahahah! Advertisers want different types of blog and they rejected mine before because they think it was too risque, and so I opted to create more than one. One for this and one for that hahahaha! I guess you know what I mean. But I found out that blogs which earn more are those that are into "how to make money online" thingy and the "SEO".
Amen.... I barely have time for my one blog and life and work ... My 20 yo son just moved back home... and now less time to blog... but I do love it. I especially enjoy reading other blogs. But 24 hours only stretches so far... good luck... I do enjoy reading you!

1. Earn more income
2. Sharing what I know
It's kinda hard some time. But since I am freelancing now, I have time to feed my 'children' and see them grow up. :P
Well, I do not have more than one blog but I do have more than one website. I do not think I could ad another blog. Blogs take way too much time. The websites have suffered since I started the blog in May. I have a huge list of things that I would love to add on to the websites but I just do not have the time right now. I do not do much work on the websites during the summer. I keep myself on a strict schedule. I do not work when the kids are around. My kids have chores and homework that I make for them during the summer and that is when I work. I often wonder how people can do so many blogs and still have a life outside of it. Especially when they do a full 300 drops for each blog. The only reason I get my drops done is because I do them from the couch while watching TV with the kids. Thank goodness for laptops.
I have two blogs, a homeschool blog, and jewelry and gemstone blog. I started the homeschool blog, with no thought of the other, for record keeping, tracking favorite homeschool sites, plus for family to track us that live out of state. It has actually worked great, for all the stated reasons. My jewelry blog, I started, because I love to share information about gemstones and jewelry making. I love gemstones, the information about them, plus all other facts. Having people discuss them with me is something I truly enjoy. Could I have brought it into my homeschool blog? Probably, especially since my children love learning about them as much as I do, but I chose a separate blog, so I could showcase some of the pieces I have made. I have no difficulty maintaining them, or coming up with content. I work weekends, only, so I dont get as much time to fiddle with them, as during the week.
