Tagged by a Meme? Will I Recover?

I received an email from Leigh at Thoughtprints informing me that she had "tagged" me with a "meme." Assuming this is bloggerese for some blogger activity of which I am unaware, and not some unusual, tropical disease, I decided to check out the terms online.

Over at Dave Pulver's Blog, Dave describes the origins of Internet tag. It seems, as I had guessed, that the concept comes from the children's game of tag. One child who is "it" tags another on the shoulder, and then this child becomes "it." In the blogosphere, the tagger frequently tags several or more people and then they also tag several, and the tagging fans out exponentially, somewhat like the old chain letter. In Internet tag, the taggee is often asked to do some sort of task as part of the game.

One task a taggee is sometimes asked to complete is a "meme." I learned from The Daily Meme, that a meme (which, by the way, rhymes with "dream" not "hem") is merely a list of something. In the case of Internet tag, memes frequently are lists of personal concerns. The Daily Meme provides lists of memes for every day of the week and is a good source for bloggers who need inspiration.

The meme I have been tagged to complete is six unspectacular quirks of mine. They are:

1. I talk too loud on the telephone.

2. I steal pens unconsciously

3. I have beautiful teeth (according to both my dentist AND my neurologist)

4. I can take dictation using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

5. I used to be able to wrap my legs around my head and brush my hair with my feet.

6. I refuse to fly, but I love taking the train.

Leigh informs me that part of the tag game is to repeat the rules for all future taggers. So:

1. Link the person(s) who tagged you.

2. Mention the rules on your blog.

3. Tell about six unspectacular quirks of yours.

4. Tag six following bloggers by linking them. (I will also email them.)

5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers' blogs, letting them know they've been tagged.

There you go, Leigh. Thanks again for tagging me with these memes. I guess I will survive. For those of you who are tagged by me, you have my congratulations (or my condolences, as the case may be).

Well you "tagged"me via a comment on my blog and I still don't understand what is required LOL And despite what you may have read in the comments - my name is not "Gracie" - And thank you very much for good thoughts for Mickey - they have moved him from ICU but he is still not cognizant of his surroundings.

Thanks for the tag! I'll have the post up later this week. Sorry for the delay -- last weeks of school, yada yada yada...

Well, I'm still working on your meme, but now am tagging you back with a six-word memoir. Go take a look at my site for more details.
